Youth As Self Advocates

PATH is the CT Chapter for National YASA (Youth As Self Advocates).

We Are Youth As Self Advocates!

We model leadership and the power of self-advocacy. We are active in our schools, communities, families, and places of employment. We share our message with other youth who have disabilities or chronic health conditions, as well as with our friends and peers.

Our activities include:

  • Representing the voice of youth living with disabilities and chronic health conditions by speaking to policymakers at public events and hearings.
  • Educating our communities, including students, teachers, and administrators at our schools; medical students and physicians; and federally funded agencies and state programs.
  • Serving as advisors to the over 40,000 members of Family Voices across the country and organizations and agencies interested in promoting youth involvement and leadership.

We embrace the slogan, “nothing about us without us”, a centuries-old saying that states no policy should be created without the full and direct participation of those it affects.

We share our voices at national, state, and local events and participate on numerous committees and boards in our hometowns.

Caring for Your Mental Health During COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to stay at home and social distance. This means, many of us who rely on our friends, family, and community for support have felt a negative impact on our mental health. Feelings of sadness and isolation are felt even harder by those who already have depression and other mental health conditions. In this video, the CT KASA and YASA youth and young adults share some tips and advice for caring for your mental health in a positive way.

Thank you PATH CT and Family Voices, along with the members of CT KASA and YASA for helping us understand what telehealth is and how to use it. Check out our other video brought to you by CT KASA and YASA on how to care of your mental health.

Understanding Telehealth

The COVID-19 pandemic has required each of us to change our normal activities and behaviors so that we can protect ourselves and each other from falling ill. Rather than visiting doctors or other medical professionals in person, we utilize telehealth – a secure video conferencing platform that allows patients to remotely connect with their healthcare providers. But, what is telehealth and how do we use it? Watch to find out more!

Thank you PATH CT and Family Voices, along with the members of CT KASA and YASA for helping us understand what telehealth is and how to use it. Check out our other video brought to you by CT KASA and YASA on how to care of your mental health.
